Evaporative cooling systems are one of the most effective, affordable, and environmentally sustainable solutions to maintain comfortable temperatures during the peak summer heat. They can be used in a variety of industry applications, providing powerful cooling benefits wherever you may need them.
One of the most important components of your evaporative cooling system is the evaporative media. These cooling pads are saturated with water and initiate the evaporation process as hot air is drawn into the media. Kuul’s industry-leading evaporative media is made of the highest quality materials, and is the only media manufactured in the United States. With proper water quality and maintenance, your Kuul evaporative media typically lasts up to 5 years, and sometimes longer.
The key to maximizing the lifespan of your evaporative cooling pads is to be diligent with your maintenance efforts. When properly maintained, Kuul evaporative media is the industry leader in longevity.
The following factors will impact how long your evaporative media will last:
The quality of the water used in your evaporative media will play a major role in maximizing the lifespan of your cooling pads. To ensure your water is enabling your evaporative media to operate at optimal efficiency, you should check it monthly for proper pH levels and mineral contents. Make any adjustments necessary each month to maintain the right water quality for your evaporative cooler.
Flushing and cleaning the reservoir and evaporative system pump on a regular basis will help you reduce scaling salt levels, ensuring they don’t get too high for optimal performance.
When water pH levels get too high, you are more likely to experience calcium scale deposits on your evaporative media. This is particularly common when high pH levels are accompanied by elevated levels of calcium and other dissolved salts in your water. To avoid this issue, make sure your water pH levels remain between 6.5 and 8.5. If your pH level is below or above this range, the integrity of your evaporative media will significantly decrease.
Water pH levels that exceed 9 can cause serious damage to your evaporative media, water pumps and distribution system due to excessive scale formation. When pH levels drop below 6.5, the water becomes too acidic, resulting in toxic levels of dissolved metals such as iron, lead, copper, and zinc. This can be corrosive and cause serious damage to metal-based water systems.
When water is properly distributed over the evaporative media, you will experience better cooling. For optimal coverage, make sure you maintain a slow and consistent stream, and have the water flow over the media from left to right. In addition, you should allow the media to dry out completely once a day to prevent any algae growth.
Maintaining clean evaporative media is crucial for the longevity of your cooling pads. To keep your media clean:
