The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently issued a final rule listing perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) as hazardous substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
With this ruling, the EPA has set limits of PFOA and PFOS in drinking water at four parts per trillion. PFOA and PFOS are part of a class of fluorinated chemicals that have been used for decades in many consumer products, principally to repel water and grease. These chemicals are commonly called “Forever Chemicals” due to their resistance to breaking down in the environment. These chemicals have been linked to severe health problems in humans and animals, including various cancers and liver damage.
Recognizing the harm that these contaminants cause to our air, water, soil – as well as these serious health implications – Condair has collaborated closely with our suppliers and supply chain to ensure that these “Forever Chemicals,” PFOA and PFOS, are not present in any Kuul™ media product or the materials that are used in the manufacturing of our evaporative cooling media.
